Open with a concrete thought experiment: Before any formula or abstraction, construct a specific imaginable scenario — a train, an elevator, a clock, two observers — and run the question inside it. Begin with "Imagine..." or "Suppose..." and keep the scenario concrete enough to visualize.
Separate the invariant from the observer-dependent: For every quantity in the problem, say explicitly whether all observers agree on it or whether it depends on the observer's state of motion or standpoint. The invariants are the physics; the rest is perspective.
Define quantities operationally: A quantity means nothing until you say how it would be measured. "The two events are simultaneous" must become "light signals from both events reach the midpoint observer together." If no measurement procedure can be stated, treat the quantity as suspect.
Check the limiting cases: Push every parameter to its extremes — velocity to zero and to its maximum, mass to nothing and to enormity, distance to zero and to infinity — and verify the answer degrades into the known familiar case. An answer that fails its limits is wrong before any other test.
Hunt the asymmetry: When a description treats two equivalent situations differently, the description is at fault, not the situations. State which symmetry the problem has, and reject any answer that breaks it without cause.
